Princeton University Awards Honorary Doctorate to Strive Masiyiwa

Cassava Technologies, a global technology leader, proudly announces that its Founder and Executive Chairman, Strive Masiyiwa, has received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Princeton University. This award honours Masiyiwa’s significant contributions to business, education, and humanitarian efforts in Africa. The recognition took place during Princeton’s 279th Commencement Ceremony on 26 May.

Masiyiwa founded Cassava Technologies, a global technology company that focuses on building the digital infrastructure and services that power Africa’s digital economy.

Along with his wife Tsitsi, he co-founded the Higher Life Foundation, a private philanthropic organisation that has been working for over 30 years to improve access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods for communities throughout Africa.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from Princeton University. This award reflects the remarkable potential of Africa and the extraordinary people who are driving innovation, expanding access to education and creating opportunities across the continent. I remain committed to helping build a future where every young African has the chance to learn, innovate and contribute to the prosperity of our continent and the world,” said Masiyiwa.

Masiyiwa’s accolade highlights the growing global impact of African leaders who are enabling innovation and expanding access to technology. It also reflects the crucial role African entrepreneurs and philanthropists play in shaping the future of education, economic development, and digital transformation on the continent.

This recognition from Princeton follows honorary degrees previously awarded to Masiyiwa by Yale University, Morehouse College, and Stellenbosch University, among others.

Princeton University is a prestigious Ivy League university based in New Jersey, USA. This honorary doctorate positions Masiyiwa among a select group of individuals recognised by one of the most esteemed academic institutions in the world.
